PolyCultural Weekend
Project Management, Marketing, Branding | 2017 - 2019
What is PCW?
PCW is an orientation program for traditionally underrepresented students to connect with current Cal Poly students. Cultural organizations come together to host high school seniors and transfer students who have been conditionally accepted to Cal Poly. During PCW prospective students get a feel for campus life, the cultural community, and academic resources.
PCW Through The Years
2014 - Hostee
This was my first introduction to PCW and Cal Poly. After the weekend I immediately accepted Cal Poly.
2015 - Host
I enjoyed the feeling of being a hostee that I decided to host during my Freshman Year. My hostee chose Cal Poly. :)
2016 - Volunteer
Being a Second Year I didn’t want to take away any hosting opportunities from new first years so I decided to volunteer.
2017 - Org Rep, Graphic Designer
This was the year I decided to step up my involvement with PCW. During this year I was working as a Housing Organization Representative for my cultural org, but on the side I was asked to design this year’s theme and logo as asked by the Coordinators. I happily accepted and worked on the branding for that year.
2018 - Committee Head, Graphic Designer
I enjoyed the behind the scenes so much that I wanted to go the next step, so I applied to be a Housing Committee Head. I got it and since I had experience designing for PCW, the new coordinators reached out to me again to design this year’s brand and logo.
2019 - Coordinator, Head of Marketing
For my last year in college I was fortunate enough to be granted the opportunity to be a lead coordinator. Since there are typically only 4 coordinators, I was allowed to be a special 5th coordinator that would mainly focus on community engagement and marketing.
6 Years of PCW
Kind of a long time, huh? Rest assured it was an amazing 6 years of cultivating a multicultural community in a PWI like Cal Poly. Each event felt more and more awarding than the next. Ending my career as a coordinator is everything I could’ve asked for and being able to design for 3/6 of those years was just the cherry on top. All the late and stressful nights were absolutely worth it. Something I didn’t mention but the year I coordinated our team won awards. PCW hasn’t won an award in such a long time, so it really came out of the blue!
