Email Messaging

Another Avenue

Aside from shopDisney’s ecommerce site, the other big avenue our team tackled was email marketing. These were my favorite things to design because we weren’t tied down to many restrictions unlike site messaging. We were allowed more creative freedom and were given a larger canvas. Our process was quite simple, design the email, slice it, then code in Dreamweaver. It’s a much more enjoyable process in my opinion.

Email Marketing

The main focus we had in designing emails was to highlight new products and promotions. Emails were sent out everyday so each email had to be completely different to avoid designs being to similar to subscribers. Each email had to follow a specific story or theme that was mainly guided by the copy that was provided.

This Leap Day email was one of my favorites to design. Using the 100-acre Woods as my environment felt just right for the Tiger plush.

This email is an example of a campaign that lasted multiple days. The main designer created the layout and shared it with the rest of us for our specific days. A different Disney character was used for each day to keep it unique.

This email showcased the new Chinese New Year products that were being released. This was an example of an email where I was provided a specific color palette and design assets that I incorporated throughout the email.

This was the first email that we had to design for National Geographic after incorporating them into shopDisney. They followed a very different process that didn’t involve any coding. I was introduced to Taxi, another email distribution tool.

Unseen Emails

During my internship I normally was tasked with designing emails for special promotions like Free Shipping and Magical Rush. Free Shipping is pretty self explanatory, but Magical Rush were promotions that were flash sales that lasted 4 hours. I absolutely loved creating these emails because they were short and to the point; however, without fail, my emails would always get canceled because there was no need for the promotion. It pained me to not have these emails sent out, especially having worked hard on them.

This was one of my favorite Free Shipping emails I’ve ever made. Although it’s a very small detail, this was my first animation attempt on After Effects and I was damn proud of it. Unfortunately the promotion got cancelled and I never got to use this design.

Magical Rush events happened pretty often, sometimes on short notice, so I always had to prepare for a Magical Rush announcement. This particular promotion I enjoyed working on cause I got to give a magical feel to the toys that were showcased. However the promotion was canceled due to great sales the week before.
